"Not being a professional reviewer I will forgo the usual "buzz words" and get to the point. Planet Bliss gets better every season and we believe it has evolved into one of Shelter Island's most consistently top restaurants. Partners in life and hospitality, Julie and Sebastian Bliss have created without doubt the warmest and most satisfying dining experience on this special Island. Entering Planet Bliss's old country house setting deftly transformed into a tropical oasis through Julie's design talents while stepping to the beat of Afro-Caribbean music is a perfect segue to the ethnically diverse menu including appetizers that are uniquely Sebastian Bliss. e.g. dishes like Vegetable dumplings with cashew chili sauce, Bazie's Blue claw crab cakes, Shrimp tostada with guacamole & pico de gqllo and a wonderful mesclun salad with sautéed cabbage, toasted walnuts, tofu croutons and balsamic honey dressing are among my favorites.

Sebastian, like all good chefs brings an intuitive sense to cooking but he tops his knowledge of food with surprises provided by unusual combinations of vegetables, herbs and spices. Dinner entrees that are most memorable are: Peking style half roasted duck with bok choy and ginger rice, seafood gumbo with sausage, shrimps and lobster over Jasmine rice, spinach Linguine with shrimp, asparagus, spring onion and mushrooms, lemon and rosemary marinated free-range half chicken with roasted beet risotto and fresh asparagus. The daily fish specials are always perfectly cooked and finished with Sebastian's lively combinations of fresh vegetables with light but piquant sauces. For comfort there is a wonderful southwestern turkey meatloaf over caramelized onion mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy and the American staple, organic beef burger and hand cut fries. When possible Planet Bliss will use organic produce, poultry and beef.

The desserts are all good but alas I no longer eat dessert in the evening except for last weekend when a single order of an apple walnut tart required an encore.

If you're any where near Shelter Island make it your destination. If you live on or visit Shelter Island and haven't eaten at Planet Bliss shame on you."

"It was a great day for variety when Planet Bliss opened! Imaginative food reasonably priced in a charming locale provides a wonderful dining experience for us all. Add to this the pleasure of the mid-winter theme dinners when we most need a “lift” and you have a truly welcome addition to the quality of our Island lives.

On a personal note, Sebastian and Julie have been wonderfully accommodating in planning and executing “events”. The Garden Club will, for the 3 rd year, hold their Judges’ Luncheon at Planet Bliss following the Daffodil Show. A truly interesting menu for very little money makes Planet Bliss the perfect venue. The Shelter Island Educational Foundation held an “intimate” dinner for 22 there, following the dedication of a plaque honoring one of it’s members. Dinner for 2 or 22, Planet Bliss consistently provides good service and great food. Our Island paradise is enriched by their presence!"

"Planet Bliss was the perfect place to host our parents' surprise birthday celebration. All of our friends and family loved the atmosphere, food, and the friendly and attentive staff. The owners, Julie and Sebastian Bliss, were a pleasure to plan with and took care of every detail. Planet Bliss has always been one of our favorites for dining and having a good time!"
